Annual Fund

When you give to Duke Divinity School’s Annual Fund, you invest in the future of ministry in settings here and around the world.

“The Divinity School embraced me as a young African-American female seeking to fulfill God’s destiny for my life in answering a call to ministry. The combination of scholarships, work-study, and field education work gave me financial security and relieved my worries about living expenses. These resources allowed me to focus on my studies and excel academically. By the grace of Jesus Christ, I will graduate debt-free from Duke Divinity School! Glory to God!”

— Teresa Cook D'07 (r), a United Methodist from Creedmoor, N.C., with Theresa Holliman, 12, of Court Street UMC, Hattiesburg, Miss.

“The Divinity School Annual Fund provides me the opportunity to give something back to an institution which gave so much in equipping me for ministry. It's a great feeling to know that my gift, when combined with others, helps provide someone else with the same quality education and the wonderful experience I had at Duke Divinity School.”

— Scott Rimer D’93, West End UMC, Portsmouth, Va.

What is Duke Divinity School’s Annual Fund?

  • Gifts to The Annual Fund are used to help students graduate from The Divinity School with as little debt* as possible as they begin ministry.
  • The Annual Fund encourages and recognizes the ongoing loyalty and financial support of Duke Divinity School’s graduates and friends.

* A master of divinity degree at Duke Divinity School requires at least three years of study at a yearly cost of approximately $30,000, including tuition and living expenses. Given typical starting salaries for pastors, any debt is challenging. A student who graduates with debt, on average, owes $34,000.

How are contributions raised?

  • Phonathons
  • Direct mail appeals
  • Special events throughout the year

Whether an alumnus or friend, you can ensure that divinity students receive the challenging and formative education that is integral to excellent pastoral ministry.

Here is how your gift could help support a student:

  • $100 pays for books for one course
  • $500 supports a mission trip
  • $1,000 covers books for one year
  • $5,000 equals one basic tuition grant
  • $10,000 pays for one field education stipend
  • $15,000 amounts to one full tuition scholarship

Whether you give $25 or $25,000, your gift will make a difference in the lives of students at Duke Divinity School.
