Concentrations

The Th.D. program is, by design, interdisciplinary and integrative. Students admitted to the program will pursue an area of concentration related to the ministries and practices of Christian communities. These areas of concentration are not to be confined to the now-traditional fourfold division of the theological curriculum (Bible, theology, church history, ministry); instead, they are to be fields of study shaped to enable critical and constructive reflection on a particular practice of Christian community and life. Possible areas of concentration include:

  • Health Care in the Church
  • Peacemaking and Reconciliation
  • Teaching Scripture in and for the Church
  • Preaching and Worship
  • Pastoral Care and Spiritual Formation
  • Evangelism and Missions
  • Practice of Leading Religious Communities and Institutions

The Divinity School 's certificate programs in Black Church Studies and in Gender, Theology, and Ministry will also provide significant resources for students engaged in study for the Th.D.
