Financial Aid FAQ
Do I need to submit an additional application to be considered
for the merit scholarships?
No. Students are automatically considered for scholarships
through the admissions process. No separate application is
required.
Can I receive a merit scholarship and a need-based institutional grant at the
same time?
No. Students receiving Divinity fellowships, Rural fellowships, Duke, Distinguished
Service, Petry, or Dean's scholarship are not considered
for the need based grant. However, students enrolled in
the M.Div. degree program may receive a grant through
a field education position.
Do my work study earnings go to my student account?
No. Work-Study earnings are paid directly to the student
on a bi-weekly basis.
Do you need my federal and state tax returns?
Duke Divinity School requires federal tax returns only if the student is selected for verification through the FAFSA process..
This includes W-2s, schedules, and all attachments. We do
not require state returns.
Should I report my parent's income information on the
FAFSA?
The Divinity School only requires student income to determine
eligibility for financial aid. Parental income information
is not required.
I received a 33% need based institutional grant in
my first year. Am I guaranteed the same amount of grant
next year?
Each year students are required to submit a new financial aid application and FAFSA. Qualifying returning students can receive 22% of tuition through a need-based institutional grant.
