For 2011-2012, Duke University Divinity School will accept applications to the Th.D. program through January 15, 2011. If the application deadline falls on a weekend, all hard copy applications and all supporting documents for online and hard copy applications must be received in the admissions office by 5:00 p.m. on the Friday preceding the deadline. Prospective students will be notified of admission by April 1.

In the Th.D. program, as in Duke’s Ph.D. program, it is not possible to defer acceptance of admission. The Office of Admissions keeps all application materials for a period of three years, so that admitted applicants who decide not to matriculate in the year for which admission is offered may reapply for admission at a later time. In such cases, there is no guarantee of readmission or of the financial aid package. Those who reapply will be considered in the competitive pool of applicants for the year in which they choose to reapply.

Online applications

Applicants who apply online will still need to send in the following materials:

  1. Official transcripts of all academic work since high school
  2. At least four letters of recommendation, accompanied by the “letter of reference form” that is part of the application package. Letters should be in envelopes that have been signed across the seal by the recommender.
  3. A sample of academic writing (if it exceeds the space limits of the online application)

These materials can be sent to:

    Office of Admissions
    Th.D. Program
    Duke Divinity School
    Box 90965
    Durham, NC 27708-0965

Applicants will also need to make sure to have GRE scores reported to Duke University (see application form for details).

Only complete applications will be accepted.
