2008 Probationers’ Seminar

Duke Divinity School invites probationary members of the United Methodist Church to an annual seminar designed to assist with the preparation of papers for those seeking deacons’ and elders’ orders.

During the two-day seminar, leading divinity school faculty will address the disciplinary questions posed in those papers. Probationary members in their final year of probationary membership are eligible to attend.

Lay Academy of Religion

Join Duke Divinity School for a year-round program of lay education through the Lay Academy of Religion. A variety of classes are offered to people who want to learn more about the Bible, the history of the Church, and the faithful life. Through this ministry, the Divinity School seeks to encourage ongoing theological study by laity.

2008 Convocation & Pastors’ School
For Such a Time as This: Christian Leadership in a Changing World

The annual Convocation and Pastors’ School, a cooperative endeavor with the North Carolina and Western North Carolina Conferences of the United Methodist Church through the Board of Managers of the Pastors’ School, brings together ministers, laypersons, students, and faculty for a series of lectures, sermons, and courses, along with alumni/ae reunions and social occasions.

Leading Causes of Life
2008 Western North Carolina Order of Elders' Retreat

Too often our lives and ministries are defined by what's NOT working - interpersonal conflicts, unhealthy relationships, declining memberships. Yet for most of us, there is far more that IS working. "Leading Causes of Life" focuses on five themes that combine to make our lives and ministries healthy: connection, coherence, agency, blessing, and hope.

We hope you will join Bishop Ken Carder and Bishop Larry Goodpastor as we explore these five themes that relate to our common "life together."

Please note that registration is not complete until payment is received.
