Leadership Education at Duke Divinity

Leadership Education at Duke Divinity was founded in January 2008 to teach, connect and provide resources to Christian leaders throughout the church, from pastors in the local parish to those who head the institutions that shape and support them and their congregations. Support for the initiative is provided by a major grant from the Lilly Endowment, as well as other donors.

Leadership Education will deepen the school’s ability to strengthen ministry by bringing together in one organization established programs for pastors as well as open application and custom programs for leaders of key Christian institutions such as seminaries, judicatories, colleges and denominational offices.

The initiative is thoroughly grounded in the world of scholarship, with an aim to cultivate a theologically wise understanding of excellence in Christian leadership through research and collaboration among top thinkers and practitioners, including those in other departments at Duke. The initiative will bridge gaps between the academy, the church and the world.

Leadership Education at Duke Divinity is about building connections and sharing knowledge — among leaders, institutions and denominations. An interactive web community and news magazine, to be unveiled in early 2009, will supplement face-to-face meetings to be held around the country.
