A Call to Leadership
Program Description
For eight years, The Royce & Jane Reynolds Program in Church Leadership has worked to develop the leadership capacity of United Methodist clergy in the Carolinas and Virginia. In this reunion event, program alumni are invited to continue their leadership development by networking with other graduates in a program designed to build on the learning from the Reynolds Program. The event will include lecture, small group conversation, an optional 360° feedback instrument and time to mingle with alumni from each program year.
Program Content
During the event, participants will have ample time to learn from the program leaders and from one another. Included in the event design are “open space” conversations around a variety of topics identified as important for pastoral leadership in a recent survey of Reynolds alumni. These sessions will be facilitated by program participants and are designed to connect the questions and wisdom of program graduates. You will have the opportunity to attend two of these sessions. Please be sure and select your three top choices on the registration form. You may also choose to participate in a new 360° feedback survey similar to the one you completed while in the program. Please note that there is an additional fee for the survey, that you and your raters must have internet access in order to complete the forms, and that interpretation of the instrument will fill one of your “open space” conversations.
Program Leaders
Janice Riggle Huie assumed the duties as the Episcopal leader of the Texas Annual Conference in 2004, after serving two quadrenniums as Bishop of the Arkansas Area. She was elected to the episcopacy in 1996 while serving as a district superintendent and is a past recipient of the Denman Award for Evangelism. Bishop Huie has restructured the Texas conference and created offices for clergy and congregational excellence. She currently serves as president of the United Methodist Council of Bishops and is well positioned to see the needs for clergy leadership across the denomination.
Russ Moxley and Janice Virtue have served as program guides for the Reynolds Program in Church Leadership since its beginning in 1999. In addition to the Reynolds Program, Russ and Janice collaborate on a variety of programs including initiatives in leader formation and pastoral excellence. Until April 2002, Russ was a Senior Fellow and Director, Nonprofit Initiatives at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC. Now he works as an independent trainer, consultant, facilitator and executive coach for nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Janice is the associate dean for continuing education and strategic planning at Duke Divinity School where she continues to focus her energy on developing programs and seminars that help clergy and laity offer their best service to the church.
