Dr. Jeremy Begbie to Lecture Nov. 29
“Sound Mix: ‘Thinking Together’ Through Music”
November 20, 2007
Through spoken words and performance at the piano, Dr. Jeremy S. Begbie will show how music’s simultaneous sounding of different notes can help theologians penetrate and comprehend more deeply four themes in Christian doctrine: freedom, Christology, trinity and salvation.
The lecture, “Sound Mix: ‘Thinking Together’ Through Music,” will be held from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. in Room 059 of Langford Building.
Professor Begbie is associate principal of Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and Honorary Professor at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where he directs “Theology Through the Arts” at the Institute for Theology, Imagination and the Arts. He teaches systematic theology at Ridley Hall, and also lectures in the Faculties of Divinity and Music in the University of Cambridge.
A professionally trained musician, Begbie is the author of several books: Voicing Creation’s Praise: Towards a Theology of the Arts (T & T Clark); Theology, Music and Time (CUP); and Resounding Truth: Christian Wisdom in the World of Music (Baker).
