Love God, Honor the Land, Celebrate Community

Two-day event focuses on rural communities and the ministry of rural churches

Theology and Medicine at Duke Divinity School and The Duke Endowment  are hosting “Love God, Honor the Land, Celebrate Community” to celebrate rural communities and the ministry of rural churches Sept. 22-23. The two-day event, at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Cedar Grove, N.C., is part of the “Thriving Rural Communities” initiative at Duke Divinity School.

Guest speakers include Bishop Kenneth L. Carder, Professor of the Practice of Pastoral Formation at Duke Divinity School, and Norman Wirzba, Professor of Philosophy, Georgetown College.

This gathering honors the faithfulness of rural churches in sustaining a vision for thriving rural communities throughout North Carolina. It will include presentations by plenary speakers and rural church grantees of The Duke Endowment, musical entertainment and worship.

Admission is free and open to the public. Bus transportation will be provided from Duke’s West Campus quad.
