Divinity School Presents Excellence in Religion Reporting Awards
March 6, 2008
Duke Divinity School presented Excellence in Religion Reporting awards to two journalists at the N.C. Press Association’s annual statewide competition on Feb. 28.
In the daily newspaper category, the winner was Yonat Shimron of The (Raleigh) News & Observer. Shimron’s entry included articles on an unlikely adoption, a man who spiritually embraced his impending death, pop culture’s apparent acceptance of insincere apologies, a man who beat the odds to start a successful church, and a young Catholic priest.
See a related story in The News & Observer about Shimron, who has won the award six times in the seven years since it was created.
In the community newspaper category, the winner was Cindi Herr of the Cherokee Scout for her coverage of American missionaries.
The Divinity School co-sponsors the awards the N.C. Press Association. For details, contact Jon Goldstein at 919-660-3416.
