May 5, 2008

Stanley Hauerwas, Gilbert T. Rowe professor of theological ethics, has been honored for his work in ethics by the Healthcare, Ethics and Law Institute (HEaL) of Samford University, Birmingham, Ala.

Hauerwas received the Pellegrino Medal, which is presented annually to nationally recognized individuals for “contributions to American healthcare ethics and law in the selfless spirit of Edmund D. Pellegrino.”

Hauerwas’s work cuts across disciplinary lines as he is in conversation with systematic theology, philosophical theology and ethics, and political theory, as well as the philosophy of social science and medical ethics. He was named "America’s Best Theologian" by Time magazine in 2001.
