Dr. Alton B. Pollard III, who holds a Ph.D. from the Duke University Department of Religion and is dean and professor of religion and culture at Howard Divinity School in Washington, D.C., presented the lecture Sept. 30 at the Divinity School’s Goodson Chapel as part of the 2009 Gardner C. Taylor Distinguished Lecture Series.

Related events in the lecture series, sponsored by the Office of Black Church Studies and the Black Seminarians’ Union, included a Sept. 29 worship service in Goodson Chapel led by Joy J. Moore, associate dean of Black Church Studies and Church Relations at Duke Divinity School.
