Overview

In addition to the normal academic programs, the Divinity School has launched significant new programs that combine scholarship and service. These include the Duke Institute on Care at the End of Life, Duke Center for Reconciliation, Theology and Medicine, and Pulpit & Pew, a research project on pastoral leadership.

Leadership Education at Duke Divinity, founded in January 2008, will deepen the school’s ability to strengthen ministry by bringing together in one organization established programs for pastors as well as open application and custom programs for leaders of key Christian institutions such as seminaries, judicatories, colleges and denominational offices.

The Theological Writing Center puts new emphasis on writing for students and alumni, and the Duke Youth Academy brings high school students to campus each summer to experience an intentional Christian community.

The Ormond Center for research of rural churches and the Office of Black Church Studies have been serving the school and the wider world for more than 30 years. Baptist House of Studies will soon celebrate 15 years of an organized Baptist presence in a seminary that is closely affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
