Sept. 29-30, 2009

The annual Gardner C. Taylor (GCT) Lecture Series exposes seminarians, faculty, staff, alumni and local congregations to the nation’s most outstanding African-American preachers.

The guest lecturer for the 2009 lectures on Sept. 29-30 at Duke Divinity School will be Alton B. Pollard III, who holds a Ph.D. from the Duke University Department of Religion and is dean and professor of religion and culture at Howard Divinity School in Washington, D.C.

Pollard specializes in the areas of African-American religion and culture, sociology of the black church, southern African studies, Pan-Africanist religious thought, American religious cultures, and sociology of religion.

The lecture series, started in 1975 and sponsored by the Office of Black Church Studies, is named in honor of the Rev. Dr. Gardner C. Taylor, pastor emeritus of the Concord Baptist Church of Christ in Brooklyn, N.Y.
