The Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Lecture Series
Fall and spring preaching and lecture series provide frequent opportunities to hear outstanding black preachers in Divinity School classes and worship services.
Each April since the early 1970s, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Lecture Series features national community lecturers who address the issues of justice, peace and liberation in relation to the black religious experience.
The Office of Black Church Studies sponsors the MLK series in conjunction with the Black Seminarians Union and a local congregation. The series exposes seminarians, Divinity School faculty and alumni, and local pastors and their congregations to preachers whose ministry has had significant impact on the civic sphere or scholars whose work has been instrumental in changing the nature of ministry in the church and in the larger world.
This series has featured such lecturers as Bishop John Hurst Adams, the Honorable Reverend Walter E. Fauntroy, and womanist theologian the Reverend Dr. Marcia Y. Riggs.
