Staff

Bradley Burroughs earned his Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in 2006 and is currently a PhD candidate in the Graduate Division of Religion at Emory University. He has served as a teaching assistant for many classes in both Emory College and Candler School of Theology and has also instructed multiple sections of a masters-level course that is designed to develop critical thinking and writing abilities. Brad’s field of academic study is Christian theological ethics, and his main interests concern the political nature and implications of the Christian faith. He has served as the pastor of a rural United Methodist Church in western New York, and presently lives in Durham with his wife Presian, who is a ThD student at the Divinity School, and their dog.

Jill Hicks is a 2007 graduate of the MTS program and spent one year subsequently precepting and tutoring for the writing center at Duke Divinity School. She is now a first-year PhD student in New Testament in the Graduate Program in Religion.

Matthew Whelan has worked with others on their writing since high school, where he was an editor of the school literary magazine. He is a 2008 graduate of the MTS program at Duke Divinity School. Prior to that, he lived for six years in Central America, where he both worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in agriculture and completed a M.Sc. in Tropical Agroecology. His theological interests are in ethics, agriculture, and ecology.

Tony Willms is a graduate of Duke Divinity School, receiving both a Master of Theological Studies in 2005, and a Master of Theology in 2007. He has served as preceptor for a number of courses since the fall of 2006. He is married with two children. His interests include Christian ethics, theological anthropology, Christian education and formation, woodworking, and coaching youth baseball. He worships at New Sharon United Methodist Church in Hillsborough, where he also serves as Youth Ministry Coordinator.

Nathan Willowby is originally from Anderson, Indiana and from the Church of God (Anderson, IN). He graduated from Anderson University and attended seminary there for one year before coming to Duke Divinity School where he graduated with his Master of Divinity degree in May of 2008. He is married to Jill who is a registered nurse at Duke Hospital. Nathan loves sports and plays and watches more than may be healthy. As a writing tutor he hopes that he can help students to develop their writing skills so that they can communicate the wonderful things they are learning and discovering during their theological education here at Duke.
