The Body of Christ is My Body
On Tuesday, April 29th, more than 80 pastors and professionals representing the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church gathered at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church in Clayton, North Carolina to consider how, “The Body of Christ is My Body.” This continuing education event, sponsored by the Clergy Health Initiative of Duke Divinity School was the first of many educational opportunities to consider how health, holiness, and wholeness intimately weave together.
The day began with a Service of Word and Table led by Jeremy Troxler and was followed by small group discussions. The afternoon sessions included: consideration of grace and the law; leading causes of life; behavior change; and the means of grace in terms of health and wholeness.
The session presenters included Rev. Dr. Edgardo Colon-Emeric, Rev. Dr. David Keck, and Robin Swift. Their expertise in theology, pastoral care, and public health allowed attendees to consider how they may apply the academic and practical insights gained within their personal lives and the congregations they are a part of.
We were grateful for the lavish hospitality offered by the staff and volunteers of Horne Memorial United Methodist Church, led by Rev. Dr. Alan Swartz, pastor. Thank you for being such gracious hosts and hostesses!
