Rwanda/Uganda 2007
Pilgrimage of Pain & Hope
Journey with Duke Divinity School to Rwanda and Uganda
The Rwanda/Uganda Pilgrimage of Pain & Hope, July 25 – Aug. 8, 2007, is led by Dr. Emmanuel Katongole, associate research professor of theology and world Christianity, Duke Divinity School.
During the pilgrimage, participants will visit important historical, political and ecclesiastical sites throughout Uganda and Rwanda. They will hear the story of the church’s struggle in these contexts against social injustices and experience the contemporary challenge to witness to Christ’s peace and justice in the global society. Participants will meet people who are living parables of the Gospel and will share with individuals who, amid enormous poverty and pain, have found deep joy as agents of transformation. In addition, the opportunity will be given to see some of the breathtaking beauty of Africa and its wildlife.
Because this is much more than a sightseeing trip, participants will be invited to enter a “Covenant,” committing themselves to an inward journey of personal reflection, shared worship, Bible study, discussion and true engagement with the people encountered during the travel seminars. Continuing Education credits are available for the seminar.
