Haiti 2008

Spring Break Travel Seminar

The Spirituality of Mother Teresa Retreat to Haiti • March 8-16, 2008

Led by Chaplain Sally Bates

Our primary purpose in going to Haiti is to live more deeply the gospel of Jesus Christ through the contemplation of the spirituality of Mother Teresa. We do this as we learn from, work with and care for Christians and others who live and minister in Haiti. Our home base for this pilgrimage will be the St. Joseph’s Family of Homes, three residential homes for abandoned street children and youth.

We will be partners with the extended St. Joseph’s Family as we build relationships, listen to stories and engage in hands-on ministry with them. We will seek the face of Christ as we encounter strangers, play with children and care for persons with extreme disabilities. One way to think about this trip is in terms of a pilgrimage of reverse mission in which we will learn from brothers and sisters in Christ who live out their faith in very different, difficult circumstances. Your gift to this Pilgrimage will be your open, empty, aware presence and your willingness to see the Church and the gospel in a new perspective. What is required is a compassionate heart, a mind open to exploring the meaning of unity in Christ across boundaries of culture, and a courageous spirit that is open to new experiences.
