SPE Coordination Office

The Sustaining Pastoral Excellence Grant Coordination Program is administered by Duke Divinity School on behalf of Lilly Endowment Inc.

The Coordination Program’s purpose is to:

  • Assist Lilly Endowment in the administration of the SPE Grant Program,
  • Support individual SPE programs and program directors,
  • Foster conversation and collaboration among programs and leaders; and
  • Develop and disseminate key insights and knowledge gained from the program.

To accomplish these goals, the Coordination Program provides the SPE projects with regular communication about events and activities; review and analysis of annual program reports; resource and referral services; site visits, and other support.

In turn, the Coordination Program asks the individual SPE projects and project directors to provide us with advance notice of special events; archival materials; insights that can be shared with other programs; and updates of staff and contact information.

Coordination Program Staff

  • The Rev. William H. (Bill) Lamar IV, managing director, Leadership Education at Duke Divinity
  • Janice A. Virtue, executive director, Leadership Education at Duke Divinity
