SPE Peer Group Mini-grants

The Resource Center for Pastoral Excellence at Samford University is offering a limited number of mini-grants of up to $2,000 to existing SPE peer groups. About half the grant funds will be awarded to SPE groups submitting proposals for enrichment activities at the Resource Center, located on the Samford campus in Birmingham, Ala. The remainder of the funds will be used to support proposals from SPE peer groups for activities and opportunities offered through SPE sponsored or initiated organizations.

Peer groups are expected to contribute matching funds in some amount toward expenses in their proposals.

Peer groups interested in applying for a mini-grant should write a brief proposal of up to three pages, with the following information:

  1. A description of the peer group and its purpose.
  2. A description of the group’s proposal, indicating a goal or goals and plans for activities intended to help the group achieve its goal/s and the proposed dates for any event or activity. The description should indicate how the proposed activity will reinforce the group’s overall purpose.
  3. A simple budget detailing expenses such as travel, lodging, meals, books, honorariums, entertainment, and other items.
  4. The amount of matching funds the group will commit toward expenses in the proposal.

Group activities should be completed within one year of proposal approval.

RCPE staff are available to assist peer groups in the preparation of proposals.

Groups receiving mini-grants will be asked to complete a brief written evaluation of their experience. An evaluation form with specific questions will be sent to groups for this purpose.

Proposals for the 2009 mini-grants will be received beginning January 15. Proposals should be submitted as an attached document file via email to mkwilson@samford.edu.

Notification of action on proposals will typically be made within 6 weeks of receipt. Proposals will be considered in the order received.
