Activities

This weekend was full of both action and rest.  We rose early on Saturday morning and traveled to Wake Forest and Louisburg, N.C. to glean cabbages and corn for underserved communities.  We had perfect weather and enjoyed fellowship while working with the earth!  After filling several trucks with fresh produce for local food banks, we ate a picnic lunch in the field and held worship, led by our own Revs. Denise Thorpe and Brian Hardesty-Crouch, focused on social justice. We had a cookout Saturday evening at the Divinity School and enjoyed contra dancing.

On Sunday we worshipped at Duke Chapel, with several of our own students helping to lead worship as lectors and communion servers.  After a quick group picture, we had a discussion about what Sabbath means, focusing on a commitment not to try to achieve anything during our time of rest, but simply to enjoy the gift of time.  We wrapped up our Sabbath day with a pizza dinner on the Chapel lawn and a dessert theater, in which our students performed.  We went to bed early Sunday to get ready for another big week!

What’s Ahead...

Tomorrow we will resume our regular schedule.  We’ll hear about Christ’s resurrection from Dr. Warren Smith, and we will have our second prayer practices session in the afternoon.  Tomorrow evening we will have a hospitality dinner with the Korean Agape Church and our first worship service planned and led by students with Rev. Shane Benjamin.
