Activities

This weekend was patterned by service and rest. On Saturday morning, we headed out into rural North Carolina to glean fields, a Biblical practice in which farmers leave parts of their fields unharvested for the poor and needy. We spent the morning in Faison, gleaning collard greens for a number of local food banks and community agencies, while making connections between our conversations on creation and social justice. On Saturday afternoon, we enjoyed free time on campus, followed by a “cookout” and fun game night!

Several DYA students helped lead worship at Duke Chapel Sunday morning, including assisting as lectors and communion servers. We spent the rest of the day taking Sabbath, discovering rest and renewal in God’s good creation.

What’s Ahead...

After a restful weekend outdoors, we’re ready to start Week Two! Tomorrow we’ll welcome Dr. Amy Laura Hall, professor of ethics at Duke Divinity School, who will talk to us about the significance of Christ’s resurrection on our lives and self-image. In the afternoon, we’ll head to the Arts Village, followed by some free time and our second student-led worship service.
