 John Perkins
Mississippi Preacher-Activist John Perkins was born to a sharecropping family. Perkins has pioneered church-based community development among the poor for over 40 years. He is author of Let Justice Roll Down and Beyond Charity, and chairs the Christian Community Development Association—7,000 people and 600 ministries and congregations across America dedicated to rebuilding broken communities.

Theologian Charles Marsh is professor of religion at the University of Virginia, and author of The Beloved Community: How Faith Shapes Social Justice from the Civil Rights Movement to Today and God’s Long Summer. Marsh is Director of the Project on Lived Theology. Public Invited to All Events

Embodying the Beloved Community: How to Move From Rhetoric to Real Life
8:00 am – 1:00 pm, St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Onslow Street, Durham (near Duke’s East Campus). Featuring intensive teaching by Perkins and Marsh, a panel of Durham leaders, and discussion. The workshop costs $20 for students, $30 for others (includes breakfast and lunch).
