Furman University is offering an academic year chaplaincy internship for fall 2010/spring 2011. This internship will begin August 16, 2010 and run through the beginning of May 2011. The position is appropriate for a master's level theological (or related field) student desiring supervised field placement or as post-graduate field experience for those individuals interested in academic chaplaincy. Supervised by the University Chaplain's Office, this internship is full time and will involve work with a diverse student body, a world-class faculty, and a stellar University staff. Furman University is an independent, co-educational liberal arts college of 2,600 students located at the base of the Blue Ridge mountains on a 750-acre campus near Greenville, South Carolina. We are seeking a Minister of Education and Youth. The following are responsibilities in each area:
Education Ministry: 1)Oversight and Leadership of the Christian Education of the church family—including oversight of the Christian Education Committee and Sunday School Department; 2)Plan, organize and oversee adult Bible Studies and other small groups; 3)Recruitment and training of leaders for Bible Studies, small groups and one to one discipleship; 4)Provide guidance, accountability, encouragement and serve as a resource to those involved in Bibles Studies and other small group ministries.
Youth Ministry: 1)Plan, direct and lead weekly programs of Christian growth, service, education and fellowship for 6th-12th graders; 2)Counsel and equip youth to minister to each other, to be active in the overall life of the church; 3)Identify, recruit and train adult lay volunteers to assist in youth programs; 4)Facilitate communication between parents, youth and church members about youth activities; 5) Oversee budget for youth ministry and fundraising opportunities; 6)Assist Pastor in the planning and teaching of the annual Confirmation Class.
It is expected that Candidate have (at least) a Bachelor's degree. It is preferred that Candidate have a Master of Divinity/Master of Religious Education/Master of Christian Ministry or the equivalent.

The Program Associate for Peace will work to promote peace and nonviolent resolution of conflict, while opposing war, torture, and genocide. The program associate will work with judicatory staff, Council-affiliated congregations and volunteers, as well as with other peace-oriented faith-based and secular organizations. The program associate for peace is a one-quarter-time, program-level position. Some telecommuting may be possible. Some travel will be required.
Specific work will include:
• Develop and facilitate resourcing for local faith-based peace activities.
• Represent the Council in collaborations of various state-level peace groups, both religious and secular.
• Maintain relations with interfaith groups.
• Plan statewide and regional peace events and help facilitate local events.
• Prepare or oversee preparation of printed and online educational resources on peace for people of faith in North Carolina.
• Work with other Council staff in annual issue assessment and planning.
