This critical position is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of this important initiative. Principal responsibilities include working with African American congregations to assist them in making more and younger disciples of Jesus Christ. Strategies include Natural Church Development, reFocus, pastoral coaching, leadership seminars and Healthy Church Academy among others. Qualifications for this position include an Elder with 8 or more years pastoral leadership in an African American or multi-cultural congregation. Individuals with a passion for the historic mission of the UMC and have demonstrated success in a leadership capacity within a large organization, such as an annual conference. Preference will be given to candidates with experience starting new communities of faith. This position offers a competitive salary and generous benefits. Relocation assistance may also be provided. Working with the pastor, the position has oversight responsibilty for children's ministry for grades 1-12. Responsibilities include: recruiting and supporting youth, building relationships with youth and parents, counseling and providing guidance, planning and implementing special events, youth fund raising,etc. This part-time position will average 15 hrs per week. The youth director will also participate w/ Sunday School, Sunday youth meetings, confirmation classes, and may be called to attend varoius other Church meetings. The intern will work with middle and high school youth students and participate in other church activities, including worship. Responsibilities include planning for Sunday and Wednesday night activities and planning events for the youth during the summer months. During the school year, the intern will work at least 15 hours per week and during the summer the intern will work 40 hours per week.

We are a small rural church, dually aligned with Southern Baptists and Cooperative Baptists. We have had many student ministers in the past and like working with ministers who are just starting out, as well as those who are established in ministry. The pastor is the staff for the church, as we have 80 members, 60 who are active. There is a parsonage available as well if a pastor chooses to stay there. We are a church who wants to hear the Bible preached, taught and modeled. We also have an active youth group for such a small church, and have sent teams on local, national and foreign mission trips.
