Chris Brady

The Rev. Chris Brady is special assistant to the dean and director of student life and formation at Duke Divinity School. He is responsible for the spiritual, professional and vocational development of 525 seminarians. Since 2006 he has published annual sermons in Homily Service, an ecumenical preaching journal. He is an ordained elder in the EPA Conference of the United Methodist Church and has served several churches in the roles of senior, associate, and assistant pastor. He received his M.Div. and Th.M. in evangelism and Wesleyan studies from Duke Divinity School, where he won the Jameson Jones Award for Excellence in Preaching. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in global missional evangelism and ethics. One of the ways he lives out his own call is through lecturing in the areas of worship, preaching, and the vocation of ministry.

Sally Bates

The Rev. Sally G. Bates joined the Divinity School as chaplain in 2002. An ordained elder in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, she was formerly associate pastor at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in Raleigh. She completed her M.A. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her M.Div. at Duke Divinity School. She has special interest in how the arts — drama, music, and visual art — serve as the “through which” we encounter the God we so deeply hunger for.

Cheri Benjamin

Cheri is the Divinity School’s student services specialist, and she first came to the Duke community in 2003. Her vocational calling to love and serve students at Duke Divinity School complements her parental experience as a mother of five and grandmother of four. Currently, she is working on a bachelor’s degree in business administration through the 23 Plus program at Meredith College, Raleigh, which she expects to complete by 2011. She is a member of Asbury Temple United Methodist Church, Durham, where her husband, Shane Benjamin, serves as pastor.

Sheila Williams

As director of financial aid in the Divinity School, Sheila and her colleagues have helped more than 40 percent of graduates of the Divinity School leave without any debt. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Shaw University, and she has worked at Duke University for more than 30 years.
