Chapter 7: Denominational Resources for Gender, Theology and Ministry

Table of Contents

For many denominations, acknowledging the call of women to ministry is a relatively recent addition. Yet, women have been working within the church and spreading the Gospel of Christ from the very beginnings of Christianity forward. From the women at Christ’s empty tomb to Priscilla and Saint Theresa of Avila, from Sarah Grimke to Lottie Moon, and Barbara Brown Taylor, women have been constant agents operating within various traditions to transform the world with God’s powerful message of love. Though many of our earlier sisters blazed trails with little aid and few resources, we presently live in a time when a multitude of sources lay just within the reach of our fingertips. Therefore, this chapter attempts to offer denominational resources specifically designed for women in ministry ranging from newsletters to organizations. May it serve as a system of support and starting point from which we may grow as women seeking to serve as ministers of a mighty and marvelous Word.
